Investment casting is also called lost wax casting, and it usually applies many layers of refractory material on the surface of the wax mold, waiting it get hard and dry and melting the wax mold to make the shell, and it is a method to get investment casting parts after the burning and grouting process. Compared with other casting methods, investment casting has several obvious features as follows:
 
First, investment casting has good adaptability. The investment casting can take many kinds of materials and technique to make tool molds, and it is not only suitable for mass production but also suitable for small-lot production, and it can even produce single Stem cam. The mould can use metal pressing method for mass production and use bend alloy or plaster pressing method for small-lot production.
 
Second, investment casting has high metal use rate. The metal use rate of the investment casting parts is usually three times of forging parts.

The size precision of the investment casting can reach CT5 to CT7 level, reducing the cutting and processing allowance of casting parts a lot, and we only need to leave a little processing allowance at some places where parts require high precision. Fourth, the investment casting has low surface roughness. While compressing the investment pattern, the investment casting will choose the compression with low surface roughness, and in this way the surface roughness value of the investment casting will be low as well. Therefore, the surface roughness value of investment casting parts is lower than common casting parts.
